Issue #151

From Dubois County

Hey Reader,

Hope you had a great weekend and are enjoying the cooler weather for this week.

I had another person ask if we would ever consider a print newspaper.

It's attractive to do so for numerous reasons. It provides tactile memories of moments for readers, whether that's clipping an announcement, an obituary, a special story, or a photo.

It also gives our work a tangible quality that is missing in digital.

To a certain extent, this newsletter is an attempt to bend the digital anonymity of our business into a more personal encounter with our readers.

I'm not saying a real newspaper is off the table, but the economics seem to be stacked against it to a certain extent.

Stephen Crane (no relation) started a print paper in Morgan County, The Morgan County Correspondent, that seems to be on track to break even. He's in his third year, and we spoke last year around this time about how he, with the help of investors, started it up.

He was excited then because he had just hit the magic two-year mark to start publishing legal advertisements for the area he covered. This meant that all the public notices from local governing bodies (municipal, county, schools, etc.) would start paying to publish their public hearings, budgets, and other public items in his paper.

It's a thought and has been a thought for a long time. I don't know what the future holds on that front, but I do know that a lot of you enjoy receiving this newsletter daily.

We appreciate you.

From Dubois County with love.

Matthew and Amy Crane

Thursday, August 21, 2025 Issue #149 From Dubois County Siblings Joliet and Cody sat on their mom's car after school on Thursday as the Muscovy ducks at the Huntingburg Event Center pond milled around. Moments before, the ducks had surrounded Joliet as she fed them a couple of French fries. Hey Reader, I have had many interesting experiences at Walmart.
