Issue #316

From Dubois County

Happy Thursday, Reader,

The strategy is as attractive as the beautifully engraved tiles used in the game. That's what Amy told me on the way over to The Social Pour last night, where we were going to learn about a growing group of mahjong players.

Informally organized by Donna Begle and Missy Krempp, the group has quickly grown as more and more ladies reach out to learn the game.

Wednesday evenings, they have been meeting at The Social Pour, where teams of four play at several tables. Last night, they took up five tables and next week, Missy said they are expecting about 28 players.

They meet on Tuesdays for training, and for interested individuals, Donna will send out a series of videos to help kickstart their learning.

Their goal is to eventually create enough players to host a tournament.

If you are interested in learning and playing, contact Donna at 812-630-8393 or Missy at 812-630-1991. Lessons are free because they really want to grow the interest in the game.

From Dubois County with love.

Matthew and Amy Crane

Tuesday, March 4, 2025 Issue #37 From Dubois County Found in Huntingburg. Afternoon, Reader, I watched my friend Jim open the Italian phone book we kept under our watch commander’s desk at the front entrance of our department’s office building. It was later in the evening, and Jim was going to prank call an Italian. Your taxes at work. There are six million people living in the Campagna region of Italy, most of them in Naples, where we were stationed as part of Naval Support Activity Naples....
