Issue #241

From Dubois County

Happy Tuesday, Reader,

Do you still have your Christmas Tree up?

I do. I think it will likely come down this week, but I really enjoy seeing it on these dark mornings.

Anyway, I am going to get on my soapbox.

We were offered the opportunity to participate in a Facebook payment program.

Basically, we would be paid based on the reach of our posts. In effect, we would be incentivised to post content that generates comments, likes, and shares.

I don't plan on doing it.

But, if a Facebook Page has the little checkmark beside their name, they can make money by posting content that creates the most interactions.

Fear and anger are the most provoking emotions on social media.

You see where I am going.

Posts about bad driving, arrests, and other provocative but half-formed news reports can make some money while simply sowing discord.

I use Facebook. I like Facebook to a certain extent. I just thought you might want to understand how and why some pages are posting what they are posting.

From Dubois County with love.

Tuesday, March 31, 2026 Issue #282 is today's sponsor. From Dubois County I didn't have any photos to share from Dubois County, so here is a photo of my favorite cookies from a recent trip to Louisville. Hey Reader, I had plans to write something here today. I've been ruminating on an idea for a bit, and a chance encounter recently tied some thoughts together. But alas, it was a busy day, and I won't be able to get it done. Check out the headlines below. I gotta go mow. From Dubois County...
