Issue #242

From Dubois County

Good afternoon, Reader,

I am on the board of directors for Next Step Recovery Home.

I've written several stories about recovery efforts in Dubois County, and one of my favorite stories was the one I did on the Dove House in Jasper.

Here is a link to that story.

I met Julianna while writing that story. She told me about meeting her cousin at an Evansville hospital after he overdosed. She gave him an admission application for Behind the Wire in Loogootee.

He arrived at the Loogootee campus at 23 using a walker and wearing a defibrillator vest.

He's come a long way since then and now helps manage the home in Jasper with four other men.

I've met with him a couple of times and interviewed him the other day.

I couldn't help but think about the ripple effect of Julianna's recovery, which led to his recovery, and how he is now helping other people recover.

And today, I got to tell his story to a group as part of our own efforts to expand our services in Dubois County.

Have a great day.

From Dubois County with love.

Matthew and Amy Crane
