Issue #72

From Dubois County

It's the halfway point of the week, Reader,

Abby Raisor's legacy of kindness and joyous love was celebrated today at Northeast Dubois Elementary School.

The 8-year-old passed away due to an aneurysm last April.

Today, the school invited kids to wear bright colors (Abby always loved bright colors) and then have a fun bubble party during the last recess of the day.

I got to spend time in the midst of the chaotic bubble party, dodging kids and giant bubbles while occasionally being asked to open snack packages and getting hugs from children who know me from church.

I have a little story about what the school is doing to remember Abby's kindness, which includes some photos of the chaos. Check it out below.

Have a great day.

From Dubois County with love.

Matthew and Amy Crane

Monday, May 5, 2025 Issue #80 From Dubois County Happy Monday, Reader, The lawn-mowing story seemed to resonate with a couple of readers. I'm glad to hear I'm in good company with others who have set their lawn mowers on fire. News gathering is time-consuming. Today, the commissioners had a three-hour and twenty-minute meeting that I skimmed through looking for stories I felt were important to the public. You'll see one in today's headlines and likely others this week. I also had an hour-long...

Friday, May 2, 2025 Issue #79 Is today's sponsor From Dubois County The new pool in Jasper is expected to open later this month. It looks like it will be a lot of fun. Looking forward to anything this weekend, Reader? I'm really trying to get my yard mowed. I'm caught in this cycle of mowing half the yard. It's like what they say about mullets, "Business in the front, party in the back," but the party keeps moving. It started the other day when I only finished the front and couldn't get to...

Thursday, May 1, 2025 Issue #78 From Dubois County Kate Schwenk attempted to capture a cute reel at the Riverwalk this afternoon with her daughters, Alana and Annie, to promote the Downtown Chowdown that takes place from 4 to 8 p.m. tonight. Hello, Reader, It seems that Abraham Lincoln enjoyed writing poems in his schoolbooks. At least an upcoming auction for a single page from his "sum" book would have us believe that. A sum book is what was used by frontier school children to record their...
