Today we wrote about Sam Schwoeppe receiving the ATHENA Award, gave an update on the Crossvine Solar project and have an incredible column from Scott Saalman about his relationship with his dad.

My dad was a coal miner in his heyday, driving equipment like the dragline, bulldozers and such at Squaw Creek. As such, we got to be in the annual Labor Day Parade hosted by the unions throughout Southern Indiana.

The union members would march while we kids got to sit in the different floats or trucks and pelt the crowd with candy.

Then, with this special status as a son of a union member, I'd run wild through the chosen fairgrounds for that year's festival.

I happened upon this photo of him from the 1991 fair held in Boonville while I was looking at the Labor Day Association website today.

Sam Schwoeppe being named ATHENIAN last night kinda reminded me of when I was younger. We were high school classmates.

And then Scott's column made me think about my dad.

And then I found the image.
