Issue #118

From Dubois County

Hey Reader,

Judge Verkamp held up his dictionary as he explained that he had to uphold the law in his previous ruling, while also indicating how he would likely rule after today's hearing.

"The court is obligated to follow the rule of law. That's what I was elected to do. To follow the rule of law, whether you like the decision or not," Judge Verkamp told the court. "Sometimes you make a decision, and it stinks. You just have to hold your nose, but that's what the law says I have to do. And so really, I think this case really boils down to the word 'may'."

May means "have permission to; be free to; having the ability to," according to the Judge's dictionary. The definition was shared in his ruling last month, as he cited the code that allows the state to survey private property.

I'll have more to share tomorrow, but I'm calling it quits for today because my wife has birthday plans for me that require us to go somewhere.

Have a great evening.

From Dubois County with love.

Matthew and Amy Crane
