Issue #385

From Dubois County

Happy Monday, Reader,

A couple of stories today.

The City of Huntingburg can't do anything about the trains other than talk to Congress. But they are trying to let people know about them ahead of time with a new signal system that gives you more time to take a different route.

Election betting.

Strassenfest Halfpot donation could help up to nine students with scholarships to VUJ.

Have a good day.

From Dubois County with love.

Matthew and Amy Crane

Friday, October 9. 2026 Issue #384 From Dubois County Wendy Truong shows off her new restaurant's sign after unpacking it Thursday morning. Hey Reader, Yesterday I set up the connection I had with Jennifer Pharr Davis and her frozen PowerBar on the Appalachian Trail. You can read it here if you missed it. Here's my story. My friend Terry Hasenour and I were off about the same time while we were stationed in Naples together in 1996, so we decided to take a train south and explore a part of...

Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026 Issue #383 is today's sponsor. From Dubois County Local Scouts acted as a color guard for last night's award dinner honoring Mary C. Lange. Good afternoon, Reader, I can understand what Jennifer Pharr Davis went through on the Appalachian Trail when she decided at 21 to hike 2,200 miles from Georgia to Maine on a soul-seeking whim. I mean, as someone who has only really hiked a half-marathon-length route around Jasper as part of the Heartland, I can’t say I relate to...

Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026 Issue #381 From Dubois County A John Deere excavator being used to dredge the Ferdinand State Forest Lake moves a dredge mat Wednesday morning. Hey Reader, Here are a few photos of the dredging going on at Ferdinand State Forest. DNR is removing tons of sediment from the mouth of the stream that feeds the lake. They're taking the sediment to a field near the primitive camping area to store it while it dries. Along with the dredging, they're replacing two culverts on...
