Issue #175

From Dubois County

What's shakin', Reader,

Our dog either absolutely loves you or is completely apathetic to you.

There is no in between.

And she doesn't really interact with any other dogs.

She also doesn't bark at anyone unless she is at our home. There, she selectively protects her fiefdom with barks at passing walkers. I say selectively because it appears to be applied randomly. Not everyone is worthy of a bark.

She also has a grimace that she does when she is excited. It looks exactly like what you would expect from an angry dog, except her tail and backend are wagging uncontrollably when she does it as a welcome.

She greets me with it every time I return home.

She also greets pretty much every delivery driver with it, which requires me to apologetically explain that she is happy they are there and that the grimace is actually her smile.

I understand their distrust.

She also hates cameras. So, I have never been able to get a good photo of her snarl/smile because as soon as she sees a camera, it disappears.

Today, I wrote about Jordan Jones and a TV series he is featured in that starts up this week.

Additionally, the county discussed funding a chief administrator position to oversee a broad range of administrative tasks across all county offices.

From Dubois County with love.

Matthew and Amy Crane

Thursday, October 2, 2025 Issue #175 From Dubois County TJ Block, a scout with Troop 182, gazes at the Stars and Stripes after completing the flag ceremony before the Distinguished Citizen Award dinner. Hey Reader, The best class I ever sat through was taught by an EOD instructor in the Navy. EOD stands for Explosive Ordinance Disposal. I was riveted by this guy's ability to command a room as he taught about disposing of explosive ordnance. I don't know why this came to mind today. Except I...

Tuesday, September 30, 2025 Issue #174 From Dubois County Hey Reader, There is a trail that runs along the Red River in the gorge where we went for our getaway these past few days. As we were returning from a long hike along the trail back to our car, we saw a large group of young men climbing a rock across the river from us. Fortunately, the trail provided a clear view of their antics and a few well-placed roots as a bench to watch from. After a few moments of sitting there watching them...
