Issue #141

From Dubois County

Hello, Reader,

Over the weekend, my wife and I watched an interesting film, The Life of Chuck.

It's hard to write a compelling description for this movie without giving it all away. But for us, it was impactful. We watched it on Friday night, and were still talking about its central truth on the way to church on Sunday morning.

I’m still thinking about it today, not just for its plot, but for how the story was told, something I'm drawn to for obvious reasons.

Despite the lack of information and a short run in theatres, I was pulled in by two things: the cast with Tom Hiddleston starring, and it’s based on a Stephen King novella of the same name. I’ve loved King’s character-driven work since grade school, and this one, like Stand by Me and The Shawshank Redemption, leans on its characters to drive the story with the help of Nick Offerman providing a lot of narrative exposition.

The story draws from Walt Whitman’s Song of Myself — especially the line, “I contain multitudes.”

Take a gander, it might leave you seeing the multitudes in the human experience — and appreciating that each person is a universe unto themselves.

From Dubois County with love.

Friday, August 8, 2025 Issue #140 From Dubois County Rhys Schuetter, 7, had no problem scaling the climbing wall at the Strassenfest Thursday evening. Howdy, Reader, A former editor at The Huntingburg Press, Jim Ward, wrote a column on the weekly pool tournament at Ron’s Place. I don’t remember much about it except that it was light-hearted and Ward would insert quotes from the winners, including himself if he happened to win. I wondered about doing that for pickleball. Maybe not as cool as a...
