Issue #142

From Dubois County

Hey Reader,

Here is a rundown of headlines today.

You'll see an upcoming ribbon-cutting for Mi Pais Market. I interviewed the owners, Karen and Jose, when they purchased Los Dos Charros earlier this year. We also spoke about the family market on the south side of town and how it came about. She insisted I stop by for some pupusas.

They were amazing, highly recommend.

Thanks for following us.

From Dubois County with love.

Wednesday, August 13, 2025 Issue #143 From Dubois County Danny Kopp, Jasper Arts Technical Director, poses next to a piece created by Kevin Titzer, an Evansville artist who collects material for his creations from the local community. Good afternoon, Reader, I stopped in today to check out Kevin Titzer’s piece on display at the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center. I had Danny pose next to it so you could see the scale in the photo above. I asked Danny what visitors’ reactions have been. “They walk...

Monday, August 11, 2025 Issue #141 From Dubois County Late summer truth on Chestnut Street in Huntingburg. Hello, Reader, Over the weekend, my wife and I watched an interesting film, The Life of Chuck. It's hard to write a compelling description for this movie without giving it all away. But for us, it was impactful. We watched it on Friday night, and were still talking about its central truth on the way to church on Sunday morning. I’m still thinking about it today, not just for its plot,...

Friday, August 8, 2025 Issue #140 From Dubois County Rhys Schuetter, 7, had no problem scaling the climbing wall at the Strassenfest Thursday evening. Howdy, Reader, A former editor at The Huntingburg Press, Jim Ward, wrote a column on the weekly pool tournament at Ron’s Place. I don’t remember much about it except that it was light-hearted and Ward would insert quotes from the winners, including himself if he happened to win. I wondered about doing that for pickleball. Maybe not as cool as a...
