Issue #137

From Dubois County

Hey Reader,

Phew. The weekend’s over, and students head back to school later this week.

Sure, it’s still technically summer, but with the cooler weather these past few days, some folks are already dreaming of fall. Case in point: a certain national coffee chain (we won’t name names) has announced the return of the pumpkin spice latte later this month.

Now, I love coffee—but I’m not a PSL person.

Actually, I’m generally not a fan of drinks where the coffee feels like an afterthought buried under sugar, cream, and syrup.

That said, I’m not judging. If you love those drinks, you do you, boo.

Don't get me wrong, I do love a latte. Hand me two shots of espresso, whole milk steamed to about 140 degrees, served in a big cup with a little creative flourish on top, and I'll drink it with a smile.

But when a barista asks me if I want any flavors in my drink, I usually politely say, "No, thank you. Coffee is the flavor."

Happy Monday.

From Dubois County with love.

Matthew and Amy Crane

Monday, August 11, 2025 Issue #141 From Dubois County Late summer truth on Chestnut Street in Huntingburg. Hello, Reader, Over the weekend, my wife and I watched an interesting film, The Life of Chuck. It's hard to write a compelling description for this movie without giving it all away. But for us, it was impactful. We watched it on Friday night, and were still talking about its central truth on the way to church on Sunday morning. I’m still thinking about it today, not just for its plot,...
