Issue #37

From Dubois County

Hey Reader,

Well, we got to write our first recipe story today.

Last week, Sarah Johnson reached out to let me know that her daughter, Ella, was excited to participate in the annual cooking competition at Ireland Elementary and was perfecting her Chicken Alfredo recipe for it.

I also learned that Ella likes the newsletter and especially looks forward to seeing the little movie at the end.

I've known Ella for about a year or so now through our church. Amy and I serve in the kids' ministry, and Ella has been in our class. I also know Sarah through her interaction with my nephew as his teacher at Ireland. Also, I took a photo of her and Ella a few years ago when Ella put her handprint on the buffalo at the Dubois County Museum.

So, of course, I wanted to meet up with Ella and try her Chicken Alfredo recipe.

Today, Ella and Sarah whipped up a lunch for me, and we talked for about an hour and a half.

It was a lot of fun.

You don't know what to expect when you enter these things. What questions do you ask a nine-year-old while she and her mom make you Chicken Alfredo?

But what I found in this story was that Ella is a thoughtful and kind person who enjoys cooking. She also enjoys dancing (jazz, because it's sassy, like her), gymnastics, and playing basketball and volleyball (Sarah is also the freshman girls' basketball coach at Jasper).

She also appreciates accomplishing challenging tasks, loves ramen and finds it deeply satisfying to deglaze a pan.

I hope you enjoy the story and the recipe. I look forward to sharing more with you in the future.

Have a great day.

From Dubois County with love.

Matthew and Amy Crane
