These Father's Day messages will make you 😊!

Special Issue

We asked folks to share a message about their fathers or a father figure in their lives. Here are those responses.

"I have the best dad! He never misses an opportunity to say “I love you” or “I’m proud of you.” He is hardworking, gentle, and funny. Amazingly, he did not have this kind of parenting growing up. I am forever thankful that he turned the tides when he became a dad."

Stacy

"Papá, muchas gracias por enseñarme tus principios y valores que requiere la vida. Por amar y siempre poner a la familia primero y proveer por nosotros. Su lucha, esfuerzo y ganas de seguir adelante siempre será lo que más aprecio de usted. Feliz día!"

Eber

"One thing I admire about my Father is how he can be so loving & funny while being extremely intelligent with something that needs to be accomplished. Example, if a problem needs to be solved he doesn’t put his ego in it and asks everyone’s opinion first which was something his Father use to Jasper Cabinet. Then he decides."

"I admire most my father’s steadfast belief that there is always more to live for, learn about, and work toward. He is the needle of a compass: responding to every turn, he reliably directs without giving directions. Perhaps unassuming to some, he is an inspiration to those who truly understand and appreciate the part he plays in the journey of life."

Will

"His eagerness to help the community and all people stands out his enduring legacy. Yet, my favorite memories were watching Westerns on Saturdays with him. He has an incredible work ethic and drive for excellence that leads him to do a lot without thanks. I hope he feels love and gratitude today."

Anna

"He never met a stranger. After he retired, he opened Rosie's Deli and the Fat and Sassy. He was real proponent of Huntingburg and was always promoting the town. He died suddenly in 1999 and I still miss him every day."

"My dad was a giving and hard-working man who taught us to work hard and strive to be the best. He might not of told us he loved us much but all the things he helped all four of us kids in helping with remodel and helping me I went through divorce. The day on Sept 28 when he died three years ago this year was truly the worst day."

Glenda

"My dad is a mechanic and worked long hours, but he always made it a priority to leave work early enough to coach me and my siblings' baseball and softball teams."

Megan

"My father was the fairest, and most honest man I ever met or knew in my entire life. He was a veteran of World War II and left the service as a lieutenant colonel in the US Air Force. Perhaps it was the discipline of the Air Force that made him as fair as he was, but I know that is one value which I treasure the most that he imparted to me. I always miss him daily, but particularly on Veterans’ Day, and on Father’s Day. He was the best man that I ever knew, and I wish I could be half the man he was. "

"I love when my dad makes silly voices for different occasions."

Ella

"It's so hard to choose one thing or one special memory. My dad is amazing all around. He has always worked hard to provide for his family and help Mom guide us to be the best versions of us as we can be. Between the family drives with history lessons, trips to the mall to watch a movie when mom worked nights, it's all one big wonderful memory. We love you Dad!"

Brandy

"One thing I admire most about my dad is how he always makes sure we are okay and how he is our number one fan when it comes to sports my dad will take me and my siblings anywhere even if he’s not feeling well or has had a long day at work I love you so much dad!"

"Roberto immigrated from Italy and always made sure we knew our language and culture. Everything had to be done the Italian way. Ti amo."

Lauren

"My father is a man of few words - but he has always reminded me of 2 things - listen to good music & work hard. It's done me pretty well. "

Jami

"My dad grew in the Gentryville and Lincoln City area. He worked at the Lincoln Park in the beginning in the early 30s. He helped lay the stones at the cabin site, and building the first dam at the lake. He had so many stories about the area where Lincoln grew up. That made me a history buff as I grew up with all of these stories. In later years he helped build the cabin at that site and worked there until his passing. I have so many memories🥰"

"I'm not sure if my dad knows that when we sit outside and talk about the day or whatever comes up, that time with him is my favorite thing to do with him. More gets accomplished than I know of yet. Thanks dad, for spending time with me."

"We all have a special Dad!!! My Dad was one of a kind!!! Dad worked hard when he returned from Korea and married my Mom in 1953 and became a Dad in 1955!! And then the real work began!! Dad was easy going and knew how to get his point across without getting upset! He had a playful side to him!! In high school, my friends took realtor signs and put them on others friends lawns. Yes…we got a sign!!! My Dad returned it to the realtor! And he told me to tell my friends that he got $25 for returning the sign!!! Well, my friends immediately returned their signs and were so mad when they found out they didn’t get $25!!! Oh my Dad laughed!! Those blue eyes shined!! As the years passed, he retired and became a grandpa for the first time!!! Oh, he was so proud to babysit his grandson!! More years passed and his health declined as the Parkinson’s progressed and he needed help with various tasks!!! I was there many evenings as the caregivers and I put him to bed!! What makes him so special is that every evening when he was settled in and before we left his beside, he said “thank you”. Earlier in the evening he didn’t know many things but at the end of the day, he was grateful! I am grateful to have been a part of those last days, weeks, and years as he said “thank you”. Remembering him saying that helps erase the memories of the effects of the Parkinson’s! Thanks Dad for the one of a kind memories through the years!!!"

Thursday, June 19, 2025 Issue #108 is today's sponsor Amy's Meadow. From Dubois County Hey Reader, Karen and Jose Flores walked me through their entrepreneurial journey today. They own Mi Pais (My Country) Market in Huntingburg and purchased Los Dos Charros, one of Dubois County's first Mexican restaurants. It sometimes strikes me as absurd that I can walk up to someone and ask them their story, and they will tell me. The restaurant wasn't open when I got there, but I could hear voices and...

Wednesday, June 18, 2025 Issue #108 is today's sponsor From Dubois County Rendering of the Regional Wellness Center. Hello Reader, I sat through a three-hour project priority planning meeting yesterday with the City of Jasper and then interviewed the mayor and a councilman about the Regional Wellness Center afterward. I really want you to read the story about the Regional Wellness Center because it's informative and may help clarify what's going on. And then you can share it with your...
