From Dubois County

Hey Reader,

I know it's gotta be weird for someone to be driving along and suddenly stop to jump out and talk to you.

But a lot of times, that's how it happens.

Like today, I was driving around Jasper and saw the group of siblings setting off on their bikes. The mom stared at me as I stopped and got out to talk to her about who I was and if she was okay with me taking a few photographs.

Luckily, it worked out.

Last week, I saw a really awesome moment in Huntingburg, but even though they were really receptive to talking to me, it didn't work out to take photos. Sometimes that happens too.

Regardless, I think it's important to document daily living in our community.

Here are a few more from today.

From Dubois County with love.

Matthew and Amy Crane

Monday, October 27, 2025 Issue #187 From Dubois County Ron and Cindy Harris shared their experience as Dubois County CASAs with us in a story we published today. Happy Monday, Reader, One time, Amy picked up our nephew, and he was really hungry, so she stopped by McDonald's to pick him up a sixer of chicken nuggets. She got him situated in his car seat with the little foldable cardboard container — ketchup on one side, nuggets on the other--before pulling away from the restaurant. As he was...

Friday, October 24, 2025 Issue #186 From Dubois County Dustin and Denver. Happy Friday, Reader, Dustin Betz is the type of guy who will commend your 10-minute-per-mile running pace and run along beside you while you do it, though if he wanted to, he could likely run twice as fast. At the Ferdinand Heartland, Dustin rode his bicycle from Celestine and then ran the race pushing his son, Denver, in a stroller. I think he finished 23rd. We've become friends through a bible study group I am in...

Thursday, October 23, 2025 Issue #186 From Dubois County Property owners and supporters of the Stop the Mid-States Corridor group gathered outside the Jasper Middle School during INDOT's open house on Wednesday evening. Good afternoon, Reader, I'm almost certain that I will get grief about the letters to the editor we published today. Regardless, both sides have the right to their opinions, and, as one letter points out, we live in a society that allows us to express them. These voices are...
