Issue #113

From Dubois County

Hey Reader,

Tonight's a busy night for me. I have an interview at 5 p.m. for a new business in town, and then I will attend the Property Rights Alliance meeting at the Schnitzelbank at 7 p.m.

I also attend a bible study once a month with a group of about nine other guys, and that is tonight as well.

We have been meeting regularly since 2018, walking through a book of the Bible, one chapter each month. The Gospel of John fell in 2020, so it took us two and a half years to get through 21 chapters.

We are walking through Genesis now. It appears we are in it for the long haul.

The beauty of the meeting for me is that we each come to the evening with our own opinions and perspectives on the text we have read.

Not to throw too many labels around, we range from non-denominational Protestants to Catholics and include a professor from St. Meinrad as well as a local associate pastor in our group. Some grew up in the church, while others came to it later in life through life's trials.

The viewpoints can be very different.

It leads to friendly debates and added considerations from those different viewpoints, but the conversation remains respectful and friendly, even when we disagree.

There is a lot of laughter and even some tears.

I've considered writing a story about it, but a transition occurs when you move from participant to vicarious observer.

It's like looking at a group photo that includes you, but you can no longer see yourself. You are only worried about what everyone else is doing and thinking; there's no time for thinking about yourself.

See you tomorrow.

From Dubois County with love.

Matthew and Amy Crane

Friday, June 27, 2025 Issue # From Dubois County Photos from some of our trips. Happy Friday, Reader, My son is driving in tonight so we can float the Blue River tomorrow. We used to drag him on these trips as a sulking teenager, but now, he's calling us to plan a trip. He can't wait to go. I can't either. We were those parents who always forced him to go hiking, biking and kayaking with us. He'd sulk a bit sometimes, but he regularly came back with some perfect stick or rock that had to join...

His dad, Jess, was able to get off work early to take him to the fountain for some fun splashing around on Tuesday. Hey Reader, Read any good books lately? I picked up Matt Haig's "The Life Impossible" and have enjoyed it so far. It's a bit of an upturn from my last two reads. Both were by David Joy, whose books have very little joy in them, though...
